There is no reason why Amber should be in a special class just because of CAH. I don't know if you are in the US but there are certain disabilities that make a child eligible for special education services. One category is "Other Health Impaired" in which a child must display a medical condition that significantly impacts their ability to make it in a typical class. Also no school can put your child in a special class without first going through a referral process which includes an evaluation and an IEP meeting. All of which must be done with your written consent. If she does have a diagnosis of ADHD, that can qualify her for services, if it significantly impacts her ability to learn. How do they know how she will do in the typical class without at least giving her some time to be in there? As far as ideas on helping her with being less hyper. There are numerous books, websites etc. dedicated to helping families of children with ADHD, she may not have this but many of the ideas work just as well with kids who are a bit active. Lots of behavior modification and reinforcement as well as being sure she gets adequate rest and nutrition are important. One thing that is important is to discuss her activity level with your pediatrician, some children who have what appears to be ADHD on the surface have underlying allergies or other medical issues that when looked at help the active behavior. Sorry this is so long. Feel free to E-mail me at anytime. I work in special ed in the public schools. Good luck.
