FYI : calcium loss
8/10/00 8:40 AM
I am an adult with 21-hydroxylase congenital hyperplasia salt-wasting. I dont frequent this board, but thought I should warn parents about bone loss. After 29 years of mainly Cortef, my new endocronologist asked me when my last bone scan was. I said, I must have been 9 or 10... I now have what's called Osteopenia. Long term dosage or high dosage of steroids "de-mineralize" the bones the doctor said. I now take calcium supplements and I eat a calcium rich diet (luckily I love dairy products). I talked with a female in her 30's on the adult message board that said she had the bones of a 70 year old... I dont say this to scare. I am very healthy, active and feel great. I just think that parents dealing with a child of CAH should always stay on top of this...
