Looking at all the posts here on this subject, I would say it is not at all uncommon for our non salt wasters to go undiagnosed for a period when all the signs are there. My daughter showed some virilization at birth and when we questioned why she looked "different" we were told that there is a wide range of normal and she is just one extreme! It took 3 years of asking questions and finally seeing a different doctor in the group (one who was much older) for us to finally be told to see an endo! Anyway, we saw the endo who immediately suggested it was probably CAH and why didn't we come sooner? My daughter's bone age was 7 at the time - she was only 3. We have been able to slow it down dramatically and now at 12 yrs of age her bone age is around 12.5-13 yrs. Both parents are short and she probably will only reach 5'1" or 5'2" tall, but just think of what her height would have been if not diagnosed then. Sorry to go on so, but this is a sore spot with me. To answer your question - yes, some potential height has most likely been lost, but at least her bone age was not too far advanced if she is 9 with a bone age of 11.5 yrs. How much depends on how well controlled your child's CAH and bone age are now with medication. Best of luck.Kay
