Re: ambar's starting school....help

Janet, my son will start kindergarten in a couple of weeks as well. I know it can be a scary time for both parents and child. My son has a lot of extra energy if he is not being occupied by something that holds his interest. He is also quite intellegent and inventive. I have heard a lot of CAH parents describe their children this way. (could there be a plus to having CAH?) Bright children get board very easily and may appear to be hyper active. I wrote to my son's school and requested a certain teacher only because my daughter was in kindergarten last year and I saw how that teacher handled a child who had ADD. She had no patience for him. I requested the other teacher because she had training in dealing with children that had excess energy, ADD and other such afflictions. She sat with me and asked me how she could help my son fit in. I told her that if she could simply guide him to something that is of interest to him he would be just fine. In this town they "mainstream" ADD children until or unless it is apparent that they need more attention than the average student. I agree with the other post on how could they possibly know how your child will react once in a classroom full of children and learning opportunities? Until you give her a chance to prove herself, you will never know how she will perform. I wish you all the best of luck with your decision making. Lynn
