Lynn's suggestion about getting your kids to take TUMS, is a good one. Our non-CAH son has a severe milk allergy, and subsequently gets no dairy products of any kind. The dietician at Children's Hospital recommended Tums as a complete calcium replacement! I had reservations about this: my Dad has osteoperosis, and has been on this expensive calcium supplement for years. When I mentioned this to the dietician she just laughed, and suggested that I compare the amounts of "elemental calcium" that was present in each; needless to say, my Dad now takes Tums, too! If anyone is interested, I have a chart that tells you how much calcium your child needs per day, depending on age (my 5 yr old son gets 2 extra-strength Tums per day). One thing that I would want to check with my pharmacist is this: it may not be a good idea for our kids to take the Tums with their medications. Right on the Tums label it says that taking them with certain medications may affect the way that the medications are absorbed in the body. When I was pregnant with our CAH daughter and on dexamethasone, the pharmacist told me NOT to take Tums within an hour of the dex., as this would affect the absorbtion rate; something to check out. Thanks again, Michelle, for the information!Wendy-Lee
