Re: Re: Paramedics and your CAH child- it happened to me last night!

I took a little trip myself by ambulance to the hospital last night (really low blood sugar on top of my CAH) and since I had been having diarrea and my nighttime meds were not absorbed, I asked the paramedics to give me my solucortef. The medic looked at the prescription on the box and made a call to headquarters and asked permission. They OK'd it and as soon as we got into the ambulance he gave me the shot. When I got in the ambulance they gave me an IV of saline and I educated the guy about CAH. I almost wished I had had a pamphlet to give him (maybe I'll send one to their office) I figured since the ride cost me $800.00 (insurance will pay most) that he ought to know about CAH. He didn't even know what Addison's was!!! I also educated several nurses. It's interesting, even when you say adrenal insufficiency, some of them still don't get it. I asked the medic if he knew what an ACTH test was, and he didn't have any idea. I was in at 10:30PM and by 5:00AM I was in a taxi on my way home, feeling much better. Susan A.
