Re: surgery

My daughter, who is now 2 1/2 yrs old, had the surgery done at the age of 2 months. It was recommended to be done as soon as possible to make it as painless for HER as possible. The Docs also told me that she would have no memory of it. When she was born, I was told "we don't know if it's a boy or a girl, pick a sex and raise it that way". This was after first telling me it was a girl. They cut the wristbands off of both of us and changed the name to "baby". I was mortified and insisted on further testing. It was at University Hospital in Cleveland that she was diagnosed with CAH. I made the decision blindly, knowing nothing but what they told me. I then bought a computer and found this site. All I can do is pray that I made the right decision for us. So far, so good. With my daughter the clitoris was enlarged and on the outside, and the labia was fused. They were concerned with urinary tract infections. They had originally said she would be in for 2-3 days but she was home in 24 hours. No open "wounds" as I had expected. Good luck with your decision and I will keep you in my prayers!
