My daughter had surgery shortly after birth.Everything went fine. The doctors believed she would have sensation. She is almost 18 and has told me that she has "no sensation" and is not happy about it. She just wishes she had normal feeling like everyone else. Some may have sensation while others do not. In our case what the doctors believed was wrong. If I could go back and undo the clitoral surgery I would. I have really lost the trust of doctors. I feel betrayed by them. I was never told that she may not have sensation. I don't think they believed that would be the case either but their lack of follow up studies to see if it really worked is unexcusable. They are not even doing follow up now! As far as they know my daughters surgery was a success. They told ME don't worry, there is corrective surgery. It was THEIR idea to make her look "normal". I thought they knew what they were doing. Don't let anyone tell you that it is Your responsibility to "find" a good surgeon. It is the medical community's responsibility to make sure that this surgery works. I don't believe in laying all the blame on the parents. I could not have possibly known that her surgery would be a failure. I only post to let others know what happened to my daughter. I only wanted the best for my daughter too. Good Luck to you both.Goldie
