Amber, Congratulations on the pregnancy! There seem to be alot of pregnant women who post on this board right now, wow! Here is what I posted to Susan the other day about dex. If you want to talk about it more, please email me. I want to help in anyway I can. "CONGRATULATIONS! I have 2 daughters both severe salt wasting 21 hydr. def. CAH. I took dex with my second daughter and started it at 5 weeks. I think you have until 8 weeks to start but if you are going to do it I would call your doctor ASAP. I did the amnio because of other considerations involving an antibody I had developed when I delivered my 1st daughter. I had mild cramping from the amnio but all went well. I had very few troubles with the dex. I had alot of weight gain but just a few pounds more than with my first daughter and was irritable (I think I just described most of the pregnant women I know). I have heard of other women having bad experiences with excessive stretch marks, blood pressure, etc. Like Chris said, call Cathy at MAGIC and see if you can get the info from Dr. Pang. There is very little information studied on this subject because there are so few cases documented. I think Dr. Pang's info said in 15 years there have only been 88 cases (I think that was where a CAH female was born). In our experience our 1st daughter was severly virilized and our 2nd daughter was not at all. I feel like because of this amazing treatment, I was able to spare her of the pain and anguish of surgery and all the complications that come with that (now and in the future). My sister also took it for about a month while they were waiting for her carrier tests to come back (she was negative as a carrier and her son is brilliant and adorable!) This is a very personal decision that affects everyone differently. I wish you the best of luck and will keep you in my prayers. If you would like to "talk" to me more about it, please feel free to email me at TDrake4475@aol.com. God Bless you and your family."
