I find this both odd and frustrating. Most doctors and psychiatrists that I have spoken to have told me that being a carrier will cause NO adverse symptoms for the disease or disorder at hand. They practically laughed at me when I broached the subject. I spoke more recently with a genetics councelor who had the same opinion. My son is only 5 years old, so it is too soon for us to tell about the reading disability stuff but I can tell you that his teacher has said that his communicative skills are excellent (non stop talker) imagination is way over the norm. and his remembery (as he calls it) is excellent. The only question they have is in regard to his hearing. We will be testing for that again soon. I must say though, when we brought my son home at 28 days, he had been given several brain wave tests and they told us that they had found some "abnormal background activity". When I asked what that meant, they said that it could mean many things from a learning problem, a high intellegence quotient or absolutely nothing at all. I only wish we could know about this stuff with absolute, concrete information. Then we would know where to begin to help our precious children so they don't have to go through anything more than they already have to. My heart is breaking at the mere thought of this!!!
