Re: CAH and Learning Disabilities

I am a 36 y/o salt-waster with a 41 y/o brother who is also a salt-waster. I was big trouble growing up, no attentions span, disruptive in class, silly stuff if you asked me. My parents took me to see a psychologist who was versed in CAH and she did a battery of tests. Turned out, my IQ was way above what they expected and the solution they presented was that I was bored and should skip a grade in school. I politely declined (as a 6th grader...how does one explain that to friends?) and thankfully my parents accepted that decision of mine. I think the teachers were warned that I needed to be challenged. Fast forward to the present and I find myself hugely successful in my career and coping with life...I have a great partner, the bills are paid, and then some. As long as I remain challenged, I do fine. In finding my niche, I have been in situations that bored me and thus I quickly lost interest. My brother with CAH on the other hand struggles with living skills, and career direction. It's not that I think he is learning disabled or anything...I know he is quite intelligent, but he is unable to take the intelligence he has and use it to succeed. I suspect he just hasn't figured out how to challenge himself in his endeavors. I hope this helps...
