Re: medical alert bracelet

Hi Lisa! Glad to hear you are getting your little one a medic alert bracelet. For our 2 CAH daughters (ages 4 & 2) theirs says "ADRENAL INSUFFICIENCY, IN EMERGENCY GIVE SOLU-CORTEF". Our oldest daughters also indicates that she is allergic to bees and our youngest had enough room to put her name on it. We have unfortunately found out that NO ONE in our volunteer fire department (Including the medical director) knows what CAH is. I asked "cortisol deficiency" "adrenal deficiency" "adrenal insufficiency", etc., do any of these terms ring a bell? He humbly said no. So now my job is educating the medics. Additionally, they do not carry solu cortef and cannot inject either of them with our own medication. So God forbid, we were ever in a situation where my husband or I could not give the meds we would be out of luck until we arrived at the hospital. I would encourage everyone (if they have not already done it) to contact their local fire department and find these things out and work to change it as we are doing now. If you have trouble with the chain of the bracelet being too long, you can take it to a jeweler and they will probably gladly remove links for you free of charge. I would definetly get a medic alert because of the toll free number that provides the med records to the EMTs, you can also make changes at anytime free of charge and receive new chains at anytime (when she starts to grow :) ) also free of charge. Best of luck to you and your new addition to the family. Hope this helps. Sorry, I am so wordy!! Tonia
