I am so glad that you questioned your pediatrician! I didn't when Amanda had the same symptoms. I even questioned the ped when Amanda's periods were coming 2 or 3 times a year at the age of 15, even though she started her periods at age 12. Everyone told me, it's normal, don't worry. Unit she started getting facial and body hair!!! Then my ped said she needed to see an endo. Amanda's first tests were an early morning blood test for her cortisol levels. Then she got a one hour ACTH stimulation test. this last test gave the definitive diagnosis. She is fine. She takes dexamethasone once a day. Her acne cleared up on the dex and it helped her levels, but her period was still very irregular with lots of cramps. So she is now on birth control pills to regulate her period as well as spironolactone for her facial and body hair. I hope that in chatching your daughter problem early, she will avoid the facial and body hair caused by too much male hormones due to the enyzme deficiency. Amanda is now doing great. She is a healthy and beautiful women, who is now 20 yers old. and the CAH has caued her no problem since starting her meds. Give your beautiful daughter a hug.She will be just fine.
