Hello all, My daughter Amanda, age nine, is scheduled to have a ACTH and LHRH stimulation tests next week. These are being to done to rule out or diagnose CAH and precocious puberty. We were wondering what to expect? How quickly will we get results from these tests? Will they have any numbers(results) right then or do we have to wait? How long does the test take? I know they have to hook up an IV, but then what? The nurse did not explain much when she called to make the appointment. I also have a question about stress. Last week on Wed afternoon, Amanda had orthodontic appliances put in her mouth. This turned out to be a terrible experience. One of the appliances held her lower jaw in a jutted forward in line with the upper jaw and she had two others to expand the upper and lower jaw. I was told that the next 10 - 14 days would be very difficult, as she had to learn to swallow again, how to drink, talk with this stuff in her, etc. and that there would be a lot of drooling. She had a tough evening but did manage to get some liquids down. When she woke up at 8 am the next morning , she was said she did not feel well and she was no longer drooling. I immdiately knew she was dehydrated from past experience. She started throwing up so I took her to the dr. at 10 am and he admitted her directly to the hospital. On Friday I took her out on a pass to the orthodontist to have all the stuff removed from her mouth ( which was awful and very painful)and then back to the hospital and the IV. She was there for three days. The orthodontist, her dr and the hospital staff have never heard of someone getting dehydrated like this. But I think they finally do believe me when I say she goes down rapidly (within hours). Is this what happens in an adrenal crisis ? or to those with CAH? We are really hoping to find out something next week because she has been dealing with this all her life and had numerous, more than 15, hospitalizations and many, many tests because of dehydration. I posted in an earlier message about what led us to the possible diagnosis of CAH. Sorry to be so long winded. I guess I am really starting to stress out about this. Marguerite PS Amanda is running a fever since last night. I took her to the dr this morn and she was on the way to being dehydrated again. He let her come home and we are really pushing liquids and hoping the fever doesn't linger. If she isn't better in the morning the dr will admit her for IV fluids.Marguerite
