Tonia, I feel for you. Olivia has never had emla cream and with her I don't think it would make any difference. When she had her first blood draw for CAH at 10 months, it was a BAD experience. She now knows what all of the equipment is for and starts crying and clinging as soon as we sit in the chair where the blood draw will be made. (But then she also behaves similarly at all of her doctor appointments) She is now 22 months and really understands things like McDonalds, french fries, nuggets. When we start our next round of appointments (Oct-flu shot, Nov-ped appt, Dec-ped endo and urologist appts) I'm going to bribe her. Depending on what is being done, I will word it something like "If Olivia can try not to cry when she is being weighed, then we will go to 'Donalds and have nuggets." From past experience, if I start talking about the appointment (not the bribe) a day or so early, she will have the chance to digest the words. If you find anything that helps make the blood draws or the appointments easier, PLEASE let us know. Good luck, I know how draining this can be!JanetD
