Re: Emla cream and bad blood draw

Ok, you got me crying. My heart goes out to her. I do not see the reason the endo. will not give you a presciption for this drug. This makes me furious!!! I don't know why it is a prescription anyway. This stuff should be given over the counter in my opinion. I am going to do my own little research to see if there is anything else that you can use to numb the area. There was something I used for bee stings when I was little. It sounds like similiar ingredients found in EMLA cream. I am going to find out how to get this cream to all those mom's that can't. Where there is a will, there is a way. Here's an idea to convince your endo. I told my endo. I wanted my daughter to have this cream so when her blood was drawn, she didn't freak out and cause undo stress that in turn will not give an accurate blood test. After all, how can these blood tests be accurate if the child is so upset they wind up vomiting? What happens to a CAH patient when they are under mental OR physical stess? There adrenals are using up what they need, and need more. Is anyone with me on this? Somewhere on this board it was said that upset does effect the bloodwork somewhat. Perhaps I am off, but that is reason I gave my endo. to give us the cream. He seemed to reluctantly agree with my theory. Man, I would love to talk to these endos. Even the E.R.s are using this cream before they give stitches to children. One more note, before EMLA cream I prayed soooo hard before we went into the hospital that my daughter wouldn't get so upset. It really helped tremendously. I will do my little research and get back to you. Hang in there.
