Hi, Funny you should ask. My husband and I had blood drawn about 3 weeks ago to have our genetic testing done. About 1 week ago the lab called to say that it had not been done yet because insurance wont cover it.BraydensmomI have called my insurance company several times now. ( I have HMO Blue ) and I believe that when the doctor or genetic specialist calls to explain why it is needed then they may cover the cost. I hope. If insurance doesnt cover our testing it won't get done. It is somewhere around $1,000 EACH. The insurance WILL cover the genetic testing done on the baby. That is wonderful. But not enough information. Here is why.... We dont know Braydens exact type of CAH... dont know as in those 8 common types known by genetic testing. He could have type X and type Y, or he could have Y and Y ( 2 letters representing one from me and one from the husband). Type Y might be the less severe and therefore he would present with the less severe but carry both. We already know he has CAH. However the unborn baby might be a carrier of X and Y without presenting either. The testing on the baby would not be conclusive without the testing on myself and my husband. They have to know what I have and what my husband have, genetically, to know what the baby has. I hope that made some sense. Ann Carlson can explain it much better. Now, because of the insurance issues and my own blood pressure issues.... we have made some changes in what WE are going to do. I am not going to do the amnio now. Instead, to save precious time, I have opted for the CVS. I am schedualed for this coming Wednesday. I will be 1 day short of 12 weeks. After weighing all the pros and cons of everything we decided that we really needed to know sooner rather than later. It is possible that we would know by next Friday if this baby is a boy or a girl. It would be great to find out BOY and then I could start weaning off this Dex. And if we find out it is a GIRL ( that would be great too ) then we should know the CAH status before I was even schedualed for the amnio. I am counting on the insurance company to pay for the genetic testing on myself and my husband. Everything else is riding on it. If they dont pay for the testing and we only find out that she MAY have CAH and MAY be a carrier... well, I will deal with that then. In the meantime, I am OK. Not great, but OK. The rest has been helping with the elevated blood pressure. On the times where I am not resting so much I feel much more tired and out of breath and I get headaches. I can tell the pressure is up. I do have Brayden so it is hard to prevent. The doctor said that if I am up for an hour... be down for an hour. So I try to balance it out. Oh another concern I have about the steroid. The original dose I was on, .5 MG 3x day was the recommended dose. Becasue of the elevated BP it was reduced to 2x day. This means I am not getting the recommended dose. So it could be that now if I did have a CAH girl it wouldnt matter cause what I am taking is not helping. I have to think that at least it would be helping a LITTLE. I have to think that for my sanity! How are YOU feeling? Susan
