My best advise here from expereince is to find out who in the lab is BEST at getting blood from babies!!  And go only when he/she is there.  If there is no one with expertise, perhaps you could make arrangements with your hospital to have blood draws there.  That is what we did.  An RN can take blood from other places other than the arms and hands.  As horrible as it seems, we often got blood from my son's forehead!  You can do that with an infant under age one.  It was days like that that made me start to use emla...when he was old enough to antcipate the blood draw.  Back to the person getting the blood...at the outpatient area of our hospital after lunch, ther are less busy.  so they would do it, or they might get an ped nurse to come down.
