I have thought about this question for ... days! I didnt want to respond right away for fear of scaring anyone.BraydensmomKeep in mind that this is only MY opinion of the Dex and MY personal experience. I would have liked to have known all the little problems as well as all the possible big ones. Why ANYONE would take a steroid without medical cause is BEYOND ME!! ( such as weight lifters ) I am currently 15 1/2 weeks along. I have been on the steroid since 2 days after I found out I was pregnant... about 6 weeks along. I already knew the basic risks/ side effects of taking the Dex.... and knew the benefits should my child be a girl. ( By the way we know now it IS a girl! ) Anyway, I have had the unfortunate high blood pressure from the dex. It is not too bad... but bad enough for the doctors to pull me from work and put me on modified bed rest. Not an easy thing so early in a pregnancy... not easy at any point of a pregnancy. At my stage of pregnancy.. the books say I should gain maybe 10-15 lbs by now. I am well over that at about... I think 25-30 lb gain already. This is from a combination of the increased hunger the steroid causes and the change in metabolism it causes.... plus in MY case the lack of activity from the bed rest. OK, these are eventually "fixable" but they are still annoying! Now lets add to that the - what seems to me - massive loss of hair from my head.... GROWTH of hair on my FACE!! and chest... and the lovely addition of acne on my chest and back!! I am not liking this part at all. I know these are little things... but they are new to me and I just don't like it. Yet.... I will continue to take the Dex bacause of the good it MIGHT do for my little girl. For you.... the chance of you being a carrier of CAH is slim. The chance of your husband also being a carrier would be even more so. If you can wait for the tst results to come back... probably saying that both of you are clear... you can avoid taking the Dex. IF odds worked against you and somehow both you and your husband were carriers of the CAH... it would still benefit the child to take the Dex at that later time.... SHOULD you decide to take it. Nobody HAS to take the Dex. It is always a choice. RESEARCH everything. Be as informed as possible. Susan
