I need some moral support right now (chit chat alert)

Halloween day my 5 y/o Damon started vomiting.  I gave him a double dose of Cortef.  He couldn't keep it down.  We went to the peds, they gave the inj, did bloodwork on him in the office, and gave him a phenergan inf.  He was fine the next day.  While we were home, before the second time he vomitied, he wass leeping so soundly it was hard to wake him up.  Roberta's words were ringing in my ears "Be careful when they sleep, watch them closely" .  I reacted the way I thought was appropriate.  After that episode we went to NIH. Our ped endo there told me to give the inj at home next time to save time.

Well, today, he had to come home early from school again with a 'tummy ache'.  He vomited at 2PM.  He wanted to sleep.  I let him sleep till 4 then I woke him up and gave him a double does of Cortef.  He vomited again at 5:45.  I called our local ped endo and was told to give the inj immediately and get to the ER NOW!!  Well, he was fighting us and too stiff for us to get the needle in.  I tried twice and my husband tried once.  We left right then for the ER.  While in the car he was sipping some Sprite and started to perk up.  THe ER Dr got a smaller needle and gave the inj.  They did blood work and his sodium was a little low, but thought if we kept him hydrated at home he'd be okay.  By then, my son is himslef, just tired.  Now, my family thinks it's absurd to bring him to the ER "everytime he vomits".  My question is:  if I give the inj at home and he seems okay afterwards, do we still have to go to the ER??  Does every inj require an ER visit?  I already doubt myself when it comes to the CAH and these comments don't help at all.  I knw that when our kids start to go down, it can go pretty fast.  Any feedback??
