My son had the flu shot this year and last. We didn't increase his Cortef. Also didn't have a need for fever reducer. So far we have been lucky and no fever.

I did put EMLA on - it doesn't take away all the pain, but it sure helps. I figure he gets stuck enough we should help where we can. Even though it wasn't prescribed for shots, I use it for every immunzation, flu shot etc.
