Re: Son's levels

Thanks for asking about Ryan. He had a bit of a problem in Hawaii with a severe chest cold. It sounds like the one that was going around here before we left. My husband gave him a decongestant and it seemed as if it broke up all the mucus at once and he began to choke and cough followed by severe gagging. I was going to call the hospital but decided to climb in the tub and get the steam treatment. He recovered quickly and we didn't give him that cough medicine again - needless to say. We got the call from Dr. New's office while we were in Hawaii and they increased his dose by .25mgs. He had gotten very skinny even though he had a healthy appetite. He had all the symptoms of being under suppressed so this didn't come as a surprise to me. We will see how he does with this increase. I am sure the increase was related to the growth hormone treatment. Chris, as for your son, I don't know the whole story about how it came to pass that your son was diagnosed with CAH, but could it be that he doesn't have it at all? I know it sounds like wishful thinking, but I believe you said he did well on the liquid cortef (even though 18 out of 19 children weren't getting the necessary active ingredients) and it may just be that he wasn't getting any meds and his levels were "normal" on their own. Where did they rate him on the salt wasting level? Mistakes have been made in the past with a false negative, is it possible that your son's was a false positive? I know that this is a long shot, but I will be praying that you get an answer one way or the other soon. After all, it is the NOT knowing that drives you crazy. Wouldn't it be a fantastic Christmas present if he was found to have a very mild form of CAH or, better yet, NONE at all?!?!?! This is very interesting. I would be very interested in the results of your genetic testing. That should give you a conclusive answer, at least as far as the CAH goes. I wish you the best of luck and HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!
