Kris: I wouldn't dismiss your child's nightmares. I recently heard a theory from a massage therapist that children who have suffered alot as infants (as most of our special CAH children have with the endless blood tests, IVs, hospitalizations, surgeries etc) may exhibit something called a "Release Cry". It is a cry unlike anything you will normally hear - very intense and disturbing for a parent to listen to, but according to this therapist, listen to it we MUST. It is the child's way of telling you "All about it" and as hard as it may be, we are supposed to tell them we are listening, hold them, but don't soothe them; Let them "get it out". I don't know if this sounds too hokey for you, but I have experienced something similar to this with my 2 1/2 year old son, although it was not at night time. I did not know of this theory at the time, and we just waited it out and tried to make him feel better. I personally would not rule out the possibility of this occurring in your case, but who's to know for sure!! Good Luck!
