A lack of potassium or sodium can cause leg pain/cramps.  Orange juice and bananas are good sources for potassium.  Salted pretzels work real well for the sodium.  A lack of electrolites in general can cause a person to feel awful, not have any energy.  Sports drinks are full of the various salts a body needs.
