Re: re telling other people

I believe that it IS an individual and very personal thing. Each child, circumstance, family and situation is unique unto itself, therefore there is no "right or wrong way" so to speak. There is just the way you deem right for your OWN child. Each scenario is ever changing so that what works today, for one individual or even for one scenario may change and you may find you need to adjust the information that you had decided to share. For instance, I have one friend who is very diplomatic and seems to know when and where it is appropriate to bring the subject up. I have another friend who is very vocal and brings the matter up whenever there is a lull in the conversation no matter who is present. Although I love them both dearly, I deemed it necessary to withhold some information from her where I share more information with the other friend. While there is no shame in having CAH, the people involved are entitled to their privacy just as much as the next guy. Obviously, there are people that are an absolute MUST and should be told the "soup to nuts" story, then there are others that are on a "need to know" basis and still for others, "ignorance is bliss". This is where 20/20 hind site would come in handy. I have found that what seemed right for my child as an infant is not the same as he matures and is out in a more social atmosphere. Soon, he will be able to share in the decision making process himself and he can let me know who he feels comfortable telling. There is always at least one person who knows about his disorder whether it be myself, a friend, the school nurse, teacher or coach. Fortunately, we have many close friends & a large extended family so, as time goes on, the story of CAH needs to be told less and less. Stay within your comfort level, listen to those parental instincts and err on the side of caution. Staying involved in your child's medical treatment and keeping abreast of the latest information is crucial. KNOWLEDGE IS KEY!!!! Most of all, love your child with all of your heart and don't forget to have FUN!!!!!!!
