CindyMary,
I don't know if you are interested, but there is a large, national database of hospital charges. All you need is an ICD-9 code and you can find out the average charge for any diagnosis. Of course there is no ICD-9 code for CAH (just to make things complicated) but you might be able to use 255.4 (adrenal insufficiency) and limit it to children under 30 days of age. I am not sure how you could get access to this database but maybe someone in your State Health Department could help. E-mail me if you are interested and I will find out exactly what it is called. Also, most if not all State Health Departments have hospital discharge databases. You may be able to get information on costs specific to VA from that.
I also have references for several cost analyses that have been published on newborn screening for CAH. Texas did a really interesting study. I'd be happy to send you the references if that would be helpful. I don't check this message board as often as I would like so if you are interested e-mail me directly at cburnett@doh.state.ut.us.
Good luck with your study!
