Re: Glucose tablets - IS THIS COMMON PRACTISE FOR YOU??

I would be interested to learn how many of you have your child's blood glucose levels monitored regularily. Here in Canada, this is not standard practise (as far as I know); when I asked my endo about this (she is the head of pediatric endocrinology for western Canada, and really knows her stuff!), she said that testing blood glucose was kind of useless, and was not nearly as important as testing sodium - potassium ( and giving IV fluids), because your other levels have to be REALLY off before it is indicated in blood glucose levels (in other words, you can pick up any problems much sooner using the tests for electrolytes - blood glucose levels are a secondary problem.) I know that treatment varies so much throughout the world, and am interested to know if monitoring blood glucose levels is commom practise in the States?? What about in other countries?? Also, has anyone else been told to use glucose tablets, and what were your specific instructions?? Thanks ahead of time, for your info!! God's blessings!
