We were advised to have glucose tablets and water available if sporting activity occured over a long period.  A games master would have them and normally give 0.5-1 tablet depending on how active the period was going to be.  He told us that if Liam did not get some before the start he would flag noticably but this problem would not occur if some glucose was taken.(rugby, soccer and cross-country only)  Many posts have highlighted the use of glucosade(?) here in the US, which is the same principle I would guess.

As long as meals and snacks are not missed blood suger levels on a general level have never been an issue with us.  I seem to remember someone posting from Australia that mentioned pin prick testing on a regular basis,  but I cannot remember if that was for glucose.
