We go through so much because so many medical professionals are not at all familiar with adrenal insufficiency medical treatment. If they were familiar (at all) with the truth about adrenal insufficiency conditions, they would have agreed that she needed immediate IV fluids because of ANY vomiting (and her high fever!!!). Yes, I also believe that a fever going high & not coming down is an indication of dehydration (before any other noticeable signs have set in). Gugh, guess med people listen to me because I tell them, "Her twin died from this condition about xx months ago." Maybe they go back to their ER desk & say, "that overprotective mom in room x," but they surely don't show any signs of 'doubting me' to me - and I'm so mean now, that I'd consider reporting that person to some authority if they did mock things. Also, at those infrequent times we are in the ER, or at any physician's office, or to any medical person in life who will listen to me - I take that opportunity to gently & nicely TELL that person about CAH, and how quickly these children can go into shock and die. It is great living in the city we now live in ... so many physicians & med people know about CAH & what it is. Our pediatrician did her residency under our endo (way many years ago), and the ped knows about CAH (meds, adrenal crisis, etc.). The ped said when our endo trained resident interns, she tells them a whole bunch about CAH. There are several people on this board (and known others I don't see posting on this board) - whose CAH child died from just one time vomiting (like one vomiting before bedtime), child found in a coma the next morning, child died.Anne
