Kare-I truly sympathize with you. I dread going to our ER because technically, they don't handle pediatrics. The closest one that does is over an hour away. One time, the ER Doc didn't even want to treat my daughter; she wanted to transfer her to the hour-away hospital. That time, I said "she could die if you do that-she needs treatment now!" But I always inject my daughter now- before even making a call. The last three times, she stopped vomitting and didn't even need to go to the ER, the injection did the trick. I always call the pediatrician or endo and get instructions and/or have other infection ruled out (ears and throat). I always carry my daughter's injectable-even to the Dr. I actually had to inject her while at the sonogram office, and once gave our injectable to a nurse in the hospital because it was quicker than even a stat order! (Both times our daughter had vomitted during tests). I actually have considered meeting with the ER chief or the hospital's director re the issue of hiring a pediatric staff. It would help many other families in our township as well. Has anyone had to do anything like this? (I have met with our local EMT's, but not hospital). Good luck to you Kare in the future!Pamela
