Cindy - I live in Missouri...about 30 minutes from Columbia..which is where my son's pediatrition and endo. are located.  I've been reading this message board most of the day.  I'm totally impressed and have learned many things today.

I'm calling my pharmacist tomorrow about stocking up on some acetaminophen suppositories...why in the world hasn't one of my drs. told me these even existed???  Getting tylenol down my son when he has a fever is always hard.  He hates the taste of  most..even though he's very good about taking his florinef and cortef.  I printed that page out.

I've also decided that from now on when I go to the hospital...I will be giving his stress dosage of meds myself once he can take them orally...instead of relying on staff to get it right.  I had them write that in the chart this last time (over the weekend).  The nurse came in with his meds...and I told her I'd already given them to him...she just stood there looking strange and said well how am I going to chart that.  I told her just to write it down...what's so hard about that.

I'm going to get flu shot starting next year...talked about it this year but didn't get it done.  The hospital tried this flu medication that you inhale...called "relenza"..supposed to shorten length of time..well my son got one inhaled...started crying because it tasted so bad and told me he wasn't going to do it again.   The respitory therapist and nurse tried explaining everything to him...but I knew at that point there was no way.  The nurse even got me alone and told me if I put a nickel in front of him and told him if he'd take it he could have it...if he didn't I'd take it away.  PLEEEEEEZE.....where do they get these people?????  You have to watch EVERYTHING they do...at all times....and I mean at all times.  My son even tells them "you can't do that to me unless my mom is in the room"...what a guy.

When my son was an infant...the nurses were charting me...saying stuff like "mom is in room and is very stressed and anxious"...I couldn't believe I read that (they didn't know I did).  That was during the same stay (he had RSV) that they gave him IV meds in his mouth...which made him throw up immediately....and they wonder why I was stressed LOL.  I was not just stressed, I was FURIOUS.  He was only 1 1/2 months old.

I'll be glad to help any way I can...even though I've had 9 years of experience...I learn something new everyday.  Email anytime...I check it several times a day.  My email is pack@mail.ultraweb.net    VERY glad to be here to learn and help any way I can.
