I've always given my son the tablet form from birth.  We also brought a pill divider and crusher(you can get from chemsit).  We jsut put is dose in the crusher(1/2 tab) crushed it up then mixed it with about 1 1/2 ml of boiled water and syringed it into his mouth.  Since you get them from a newborn they take to it straight away.  I also breastfed my son and found he had no problems at all taking his meds this way and i knew he was having the whole lot.  Even with any other medicine i have to give him(cough etc) i give it to him with a syringe and he gobbles it down even the foul tasting stuff!!( We have him trained!)  He's now 18 months and occasionally I just give him the tablet which he chews uo but I'd still rathrer syringe it incase he spits it out after I think he's had it!  All the best with your new bubba - I know it's ovrwhelmimg at first but belive me all the extra bits become just part of your routine.
