Re: Re: Weight gain/swelling from Cortef

My daughter, age 12, was perscribed Cortef solution most of her life. At age 11 I finally requested that she be placed on the Cortef pill instead of the solution. My main rational for doing this was information from this board and her inconsistent blood results that we were receiving. We have them drawn about once a month.

In switching to the pill her blood results reduced to normal levels and stayed consistent, unfortunately, continuing in time to be oversuppressed. Each month after reduction in the meds I noticed weight gain, heavy semi-moon face, and the appetite increase. The ped said he was happy, my thoughts were that 17OH of 120 and less were oversuppression. I cut back a little on the pill (a feeling that I know my daughter well) and she began to lose weight and grow once again. She is now after 7 months almost to skinny but growing. Blood work is still good on the 17OH, however the Adrostine is reaching the high end.

My question, which I proposed to the endrocrinologist is: If one is over suppress for 3-4 months do they permently loose that height. He said no-- any feedback from our readers?
