PREDNISONE (OOPS)

I don't know why I keep hitting enter after my name. I apoligize.

My son was on prednisone for a year and a half.  I didn't realize until he was hospitalized at a Children's Hospital that my doctor didn't have privleges at that he was being severely overtreated.  The doctors went round and round about the types of steriods that were given to him through his IV.  The doctor at the hospital shared his concerns with me and we have since switched doctors and he is on Cortef tabs.  My son has advanced bone age and previous doctor told us that he needed to completely stop his growth so his chronological age could catch up to his bone age.  Our new doctor said this is completely innaccurate and that we should watch his levels very closely, BUT he needs to grow.  He has now been on the Cortef for a year and his weight has leveled off and his growth charts look much better.  In May he is scheduled for a bone age and a bone density test to see how much damage the prednisone did.  Were keeping our fingers crossed.  I don't think it would be a bad idea for all endos to do a bone density on all patients to give them a baseline and then retest maybe every 2-3 years.
