CarolAgain, as I mentioned above, PLEASE check your child's dose of solu-cortef (in liquid form) and the size of needle you use before placing your order. The Inject-ease is NOT a one-size fits all contraption, and will only accept certain size needles. The LARGEST needle my model will accept is 1 cc. I believe my son's solu-cortef dose is equivalent to 2 cc's, which means I will have to fill up the needle TWICE in order to give him a full dose. This does not bother me, especially since I already own one of these things, but I think it's only fair that those in the process of getting one understand this clearly and are not caught off-guard, especially in an emergency.
Again, please discuss with your pharmacist the possibility of different sizes of the Inject-ease. There may be models that will accept needles larger than 1 cc.
As to whether or not you need a doctor's prescription, I was told by our pharmacist (CVS) that it was not necessary, that the device itself is considered over-the-counter, though the hypodermic needles need a prescription. I haven't actually tried ordering myself (since we were given one), was just asking out of curiosity. But I think Lynn T. makes a good suggestion, which is that even if it is available OTC, if you can get a doctor to prescribe it for you, you can probably get some of the cost defrayed.
Anyway, best of luck to all.
