JudyHi Laura
Bethan has asked me to update you on their new life in Spain. Well they just love it, who wouldn't all that super healthy sunshine. Megan her 5 year old C.A.H. salt waster has settled in to her new school really well. It is a Bilingual infant school with only 29 pupils so as you can imagine she loves it. However from May she will be joining her younger sister at the local Spanish school which although a lot bigger is not fee paying and also a far better grounding for the language, she only went to the private school because they did not have room for her in San Miguel. Bethan and Megan came home in January for Megan's appointment at the Birmingham Childrens Hospital, I went out to Spain to help David her husband look after Ceri age 3 and Morgan age 1 neither of which have C.A.H.
Megan is under the care of Dr Jeremy Kirk the pediatric consultant, he is known as 'Captain Kirk of the Star Ship Endocrine' she had good blood results and they were delighted with her growth.
Actually some of the mesages I read on the notice board are quite disturbing, for instance when Megan was diagnosed at 2 days old she was taken straight to the Special Care Unit and Bethan and David were given leaflets, and told all about her condition, she was sent home at 15 days old having been given instruction on how to administer her emergency injection (fortunately she has never needed it as yet) was introduced to another Mum in the area who also had a C.A.H. daughter 12 months older than Megan, though not as severly produced. Then when Megan went to Nursery the Borough Pediatrician took her team to the school and told the staff all about the management of the condition gave out leaflets to the staff and instructed them all in emergency injecting.
They have found a very good pediatrician in Torrvieja who will look after Megan if she gets ill, however Dr Kirk is keen to keep her under his wing, so Bethan will come home twice a year for her appointments. She will also need further surgery in the future and this will be done by Mr. Perasha who did her reduction for her who is also at the Birmingham Kids.
Bethan and David do not have a computer in Spain, at the moment they are still trying to get a phone installed it has been nearly 3 months so far and Telefonika insist that they have installed, but goodness knows where, not in their house for sure. Anyway Laura thanks for your initial reply back in October we all appreciated it.
Take Care, Judy (Bethans' Mum)
