Here I am ... and where I have been
2/1/01 7:10 PM
For the most part I have been reading when I can. I am still on bed rest so I try to limit my computer time. However, bed rest is hard to do at the hospital with a very sick child. :( Last week I took Brayden to the doctor 3 times. He was breathing way too fast, had high fever ( 101 or more) and complained of bad headaches. I tripled his cortef due to the fever. He had chest X Rays last Tuesday but they looked OK. Doctors suspected it was viral and not much to do but wait it out. By Thursday he was much worse. The doctor wanted another set of X Rays and blood work done but thought it was fine to wait til the x ray lab was open in the morning. ( It was evening at the time ) We took him home and he just went further down hill. His headaches were worse. His fever was not going down no matter what we did and his breathing got even faster and more shallow. Me and my husband decided NO WAY could we wait til the morning and took him to the ER. I warn the husband that I would be loud if I had to... to be seen IMMEDIATLY. There was nobody at the check in desk when we got there so LOUD I got! They took us to a bed in the back right away. I repeated the chance of shock and death and had my emergemcy instructions waving in their faces. Brayden's oxygen level was too low. They hooked him up to oxygen and started the IV. Chest x rays showed pneumonia in both lungs. They admitted him and brought us upstairs to the childrens wing. Everybody I saw I remined that he had CAH. I made it simple for them and explained what it was. I think it was the respiratory therapist who finlly REALLY caught on to the possible severity of it all. I think he must of said something to the nurse who said something to the doctor.... we were soon moved to a different room.... a room with a moniter for heart, breathing, and oxygen levels. Then the next morning they decided he was too much for that hospital and he was transferred by ambulance ( lights and siren ) to Children's Hospital in Boston. He almost ended up in ICU.. they had a bed for him etc.... but he perked up just enough to avoid ICU. He spent 5 days at Children's and came home yesterday. Since home he has been great. Back to running around and getting into trouble. (smile) While at the hospital I had the nurses check my BP. It was good. Little did they know they really had TWO people to look out for. He hee hee. So, I will continue to read messages. I am around. I am at 27 weeks now by the way! Very cool on those newly pregnant. And good news on others preg related lab tests..... either having a boy( even with CAH not so so bad ) or a girl without CAH. I am rooting for you all!!!!
