The list below is in no particular order, but is just some things that came to mind that you can check on, try to observe, and/or talk to the ped endo about. I might suggest that you keep a simple journal of your daughter's day -- how did she eat, drink? naps and night time sleep? normal wet diapers? any dirty diapers? You are right in being concerned. 1. Is her medication given at the same times each day? Many parents have learned that their children must recieve their cortef every 8 to 8.5 hours or they will notice a difference. While other parents are able to give on a regular schedule. 2. Missed doses -- do they happen? ever when there is a crisis? how do you handle them. 3. Is there any fever, vomitting, and/or diarehia at the time of the crisis, or even a day or so before? 4. Has your ped endo given you instructions on how to deal with fever, vomitting and diarehia? Typically fever over 101 will require a triple dose of cortef. Depending on the child and the associated illness, vomitting and diarehia will require anything from a double dose of cortef to an injection and trip to the ER. 5. Two-year-olds can be very independent (I have one :-) in some of their habits -- does your daughter drink enough daily to remain hydratted? When she has a crisis, have you noticed that she had not had a very wet diaper? This could be an indication of her being dehydrated. 6. If your daughter is salt-waster, is she getting enough salt in her diet? Most two-year-olds are on table food and should be getting enough, but it doesn't hurt to check. Also if she is a salt-waster, is she taking flournef (sp?) on a regular schedule? 7. Some children will have ear infections (or other illnesses) and not have any of the typical things that would cause us to automatically stress dose (e.g. fever). My ped endo recommends stress doses for illness such as ear infections even if there isn't a fever. Good luck and ask ANY question -- there is a wealth of information and experience on this board!
