Susan A.Laura, Most of the adults that I know of with CAH are either on Cortef or Dexamethasone. A few are on Prednisone. (Most late-onset are on Dex.) Personally I have a light case of CAH (non-saltwasting) had signs as a very young child, never got a period, and all of the other horror-story crap (hirsutism, headaches, ovarian cysts, anxiety, enlarged clitoris, acne, precocious puberty (w/out periods) muscular body, broad shoulders, strep throat all the time, tall as a child then stopped growing at age 11.) but my parents didn't take me to a doctor until I was 14, and then I wasn't referred to an endo until I was 19 (still no periods)- when I was finally diagnosed (My current endo is shocked I didn't die) I haven't heard of changing the dose for menopause.Actually I didn't even know all of the preceeding symptoms were linked to CAH until I talked to other gals and we all have similar symptoms. Wow! Never got the info from my earlier endo's. I am now in my 40's and starting into menopause. I feel fine though. Actually, better than I have in a long while.
Recently I went from .625 of Dex to .5 and it took about 3 weeks to really feel OK. (I was really tired in the interim) I did lose 8 lbs just by lowering the dose (nothing else has changed). Most of the weight came off of my face and stomach.
