Laura, I believe the best place to find answers to your queries is the Texas Department of Health, Newborn Screening Department at:  www.tdh.state.tx.us/newborn/Cahoot3.htm, which I believe brings up the issue with my two articles in it. However, contact Carolyn Scruggs, and she can connect you with the Newborn Screening president. They perform over 300,000 screens a year, finding approximately 20 cases per year. It is the largest operation, and has gone through the obstacles that your state is facing, only on a larger scale. Please contact them, even if you have to dial them direct.
