I decided that I would answer the above question here, I was severly virilized at birth in which my birth certificate was noted as baby not baby boy or baby girl, it took a few days for the doctors to determine what I was. I did have the vagioplasty with the dilation but I don't remember those details because I was an infant, the clitioplasty they did back in 64 didn't remove the clitoris, they took some tissue but not to the extent they do today. Through the years the clitoris was large I would say about the size of a thumb and definetely looked out of place when aroused, the anatomy of the vaginal area is still not 100% but it doesn't look anything like it used to, I didn't need second surgery on the vagina just in the clitoral area but sex the first couple of times was difficult (Sorry if I'm being graphic but you won't get the picture if I'm not). I have had natural childbirth and that wasn't easy because the pelvic area is smaller than normal, my second child required a c-section because the doctors didn't want to take chances with the smaller pelvis. I don't understand why people get so upset with the idea that maybe not everytime these kids have surgery that it will be a bad outcome, I don't think that is the case. I firmly believe that the psychological damage that is done from not doing it is very harmful to a child because I have been in those shoes and I know what it feels like. Everytime this subject comes up on this board and also the other board, the same reaction happens, whatever happened to us as children is over and new medical technology has better hope for kids who have to deal with this today.Deb
