Re: Am I too sensitive?

If only everyone was sensitive like you it would be a better world. Listen to your maternal instincts. Five is a very hard age what with starting Kindergarten and all. It is a time where all of your child's insecurities can come flowing out all at once because she has others to compare herself to. My daughter became a bit self-conscious when she started Kindergarten. She had gone to pre-school before and seemed to fit right in and was very popular. Now she is very aware of the clothes she wears, the way she styles her hair, what this one said about that one, etc. Her heart is an open book and she cares very deeply about others and their feelings and what they say about her. This is just the beginning of your child learning about herself and how she fits in with others. When I signed my daughter up for ballet, her insecurities seemed to disipate and her self-esteem improved. She certainly surprised me when she announced that she wanted to play an angel in the "Nutcracker". I had my doubts about her getting up on stage in front of everyone, but she showed us. She played the part of a Russian dancer this year and is already talking about who she will play next Christmas. Is your daughter involved in extra curricular activities? I truly think that the more exposure she gets (with your guidance and supervision) the less self-conscious she will be. By the way, my daughter does not have CAH but she still had her own problems adjusting. It might just be an age appropriate reaction for a shy child. Keep your eye on her and make sure that there isn't something else going on with her. Follow your instincts. Nobody knows her better than you! You may also encourage her to post (with your help) on the kids message board that Danny has set up. You may hear some candid information while she innocently dictates her message to you. Good luck and keep us posted.
