ChristinaHello
I am 17 and have been blessed with a successful "clitorus reduction" surgery. Thanks to my parents they chose for me to have it reduce to a normal size. It was 1985 when it was done and I don't even remember having any "penal structure." If I were a parent I would totally have it done and I say "the sooner the better" because there will be less psychological damage. Looks can change but memory can't. The only reason I know I have it done was because on my birth certificate it says 'M' but changed to 'F'.
For all those parents who are scared and don't know what to do, I, being a CAH carrier and overflamed clitoris, definitely recommend having the surgery. Although they may loss some sensation (probably nothing thanks to technological advances), the psychological effects would be devastating.
One last thing to strongly recommend. Research, Research, Research. Back in 1985, there was near to no information on this topic open to the public and my mother and father research and found the one of the best doctors in the country (that their insurance could handle). From there they interviewed each one just to find the perfect one. Although this sounds like a lot of work, I pretty sure it is worth your daughters future.
Thank You All,
Christina
