Melanie,

Welcome the message board!  It is the greatest thing ever!  I have learned so much here.

The dosages your son is on sound similar to what my son was taking when he was 3 months old (he is now 18 mos).  The florinef can usually be decreased as your child gets older and his kidneys function better.  Your endo will probably consider his blood pressure and plasma renin results when deciding whether to decrease the dose.  (Too much florinef will give him high blood pressure).  My son started out taking 0.2 mg of florinef a day.  Now he just takes 0.1 mg/day.  Beware of decreasing the florinef too rapidly.  When we first decreased it from 0.2 to 0.1, my son's plasma renin and 17-OHP levels shot through the roof.  So we increased it back up to 0.15.  We just recently decreased it again to 0.1 mg/day.  I am still waiting for the test results to see how he is doing on this dose.

My endo discontinued the sodium when my son was only about 1 month of age.  I was glad because it was so hard to get him to take it.  However, I was really worried that he wasn't getting enough salt since I was breastfeeding.  Different endos seem to have varying opinions about the importance of the salt supplement.

I am curious about the form of cortef your son is taking.  Is it a suspension that your pharmacy mixes?  Is it 2 mg of hydrocortisone/ml?  Like many others I am an advocate of switching to the tablet form.  My son was on the defective liquid made by Upjohn and his dose has decreased dramatically since we switched to the pill.

I hope you are enjoying your new baby!  They grow up so fast.  Is he your first?  Don't worry, EVERYTHING gets easier!!  Before you know it, you will be the one answering questions!
