Lisa L.I have posted a few times and found everyone's insight to be EXTREMELY helpful...I hope you all can help again.
Has anyone tried to get life insurance for your CAH child? If so, did you have any problems?
I sent in an application to Gerber Life Insurance Co for their Grow-Up plan for my son soon after he was born and later received a letter stating that because of his CAH they couldn't offer coverage at this time. They would have to wait 5 years and then could reevaluate. I contacted them and asked what their reason for the denial was and they told me that they wait 5 years to get the medical records to see if the child has any of the associated conditions with CAH. I contacted my son's endo who told me that there were no associated conditions (the life insurance company has yet to tell me what conditions they are talking about). I sent them a letter asking for specific details and they told me that because of the information in my son's medical records and his age they couldn't offer coverage (no specific details like I asked for). I have seen his medical records and know that the only thing in there are the endo's clinic notes that say he has CAH, his sodium levels are in the upper normal range and lists the medications he is on.
Today the insurance company told me that their reinsurer was concerned about the long term effects of the steriod use. I asked what that was supposed to mean and was told that they would have to get back to me. I have tried to tell them that my son is not getting extra steriod...that this is only replacement therapy. I know this message is getting a little long but I was wondering if any of you have heard the same type of run-around. Because that is what I feel like I am getting.
Thanks!
