RobertaI hope my children (Stephen and Adam) are not at a higher risk because CAH is treatable and they are suppose to live a normal life span. But some doctors just don't explain the risks of adrenal crisis or understand CAH enough to even call themselves a doctor!! Or my two year daughter, Jessica, would not be dead now. Nor Anne beautiful little 3 year, Erica. Two little angels in heaven. Adrenal crisis!!
Warning - always have the solu-cortef available and give it immediately if fever (high fever over 102 or 103; for 101 fever triple the oral dose immediately) If the child vomits more than twice - give the injection immediately - do not wait for any reason. You can not over dose with the cortef but if you do not give it the child will die of adrenal shock.
Anyway supplemental life insurance (like Gerber) will not cover the CAH because CAH is an pre-existing condition. Same problem if you are changing health insurance companies.
