eveieThis is the first time I had to deal with my 11 month old with a high fever. I immediately took her to the ER and the ped. on duty didn't seem to see take her too seriously. Even though I kept on mentioning of her condition, he was very reluctant to give her the stress dose so I had requested for our endocrin. to take a look at her cond.(who showed up like 4 hours later being caught up in a meeting) Anyway, during the waiting pd. blood tests were ran to check her posstassium level and Na. which came out normal. but a slight sign of dehydration ans she was put on IV for four hours and just kept on falling asleep. Anyway, I had to constantly remind the doctor on duty of the potential for adrenal crisis and all the stuff that I've educated myself thru this board and what MOST of the mothers in the US were doing in times of stess etc. (by the way, for some of you who won't remember or know, I'm in Seoul Korea). His answer was that it won't hurt to give the stress dose but he still wanted to wait until the our doc. showed up....... just to make sure!!!!
Anyway, the conclusion was our endoc. finally arrived and just by looking at the tests results, decided NO stress dose necessary and just for us to GO HOME. That's it. When I started throwing him all kinds of what ifs, he simply said, she was a nonsalt waster and not a severe form, that it's unncessary for him to so anything for a fever and perscribed liquid Tylenol. And so, here I am not only frustrated but scared that my child may be in danger in the future of not receiving the fullest benefits and precautionary measures that she deserves.
Sorry to be rambling on so much, but I am now experiencing some of the frustration that were voiced here so often of the lack of knowledge in the staff at the ER. My little girl is still with a mild fever and her condition seems to be fluctuating pretty dramatically. She is alert and playful for like an hour and the next thing I see her all flushed and miserable. She is just on her maintenance dose with fever reducer 3 times a day. This is going on for two full days now. And I don't know if I should just give her the stress dose on my own. What should I do??????????????
