Well, after being home with Olivia for 6 days due to a fever (and very limited other syptoms), we had a regular appointment with the ped urologist. After I explained that part of her crabbiness could be atributed to being being home with a fever, the first words out of his mouth were "did she have an urnary track infecttion?" At this point I felt like kicking myself -- I know that due to her anatomy (vagina connects to urethra) she is more susceptable to UTI's, but she had never had one before. After putting a "bag" on her for close to an hour (with lots of tickeling, water running, and pushing on the bladder) there was finally the two drops needed to do the culture, but not the teaspoon to do a full analysis. (The nurse did say that children close to potty-training will often do this!) The preliminary results were back today and the doctor (not the nurse) called me at work to give me the results and talk about the situation. I then called the pediatricians's office to let them know about the diagnosis and that Olivia was going on antibiotics. Well, the pediatrician just called me at work to appologize for not catching the UTI! She is going to contact the ped urologist to find out when we should be checking Olivia. I truly am blessed with some wonderful doctors! Now the question for those of you who have daughters who have and UTI's -- what should I look for? is there anything I can do? any suggestions? Thanks,JanetD
