KimberlyYesterday, I took my CAH son to his Ped. to discover he has a ear infection (acutally, so does his brother and myself - it's been a fun week). As he was playing I noticed that he had bright red cheeks and felt warm. So, I attempted to take his temp rectally. Well, what a nightmare, he was screaming and wiggling just like a true toddler. It was so horrible that I by myself, could in no way get this child's temp! My husband won't be home for another hour and my parents both have acute bronchitis and are staying far away. I didn't want to chance it, so I went ahead and doubled his cortef and gave him motrin.
My long winded question is does anyone have any tricks of the trade on getting a oral temp when you are alone? Also what do you think of ear themometers? I was always told that the rectal are the most accurate. Any thoughts are much appreciated J
