There are lots of things you can do, Janet; my sister has suffered with recurrent bladder infections her whole life, and many specialists have given her lots of suggestions: NO bubble baths is a big one, and not even washing her hair in the bathtub either (the shampoo can irritate). Also, double rinse all of her underwear, and don't use any fabric softener on her panties. You probably know not to ever use baby powder (or even good, old-fashioned cornstarch!) on her bum, either. Make sure she keeps as dry and clean as possible, which is hard to do when they're potty training; wiping her with a cloth each time is not a bad idea - but never use baby wipes!: the chemicals in them (even if there is no alcohol) can also irritate. Now for her diet: avoid all caffeine (this means colas and chocolate, too!) and any carbonated beverage, such as pop. Also, juices that are high in citric acid (orange, lemon, pineapple, etc.) should be avoided if she is really prone to UTI's - stick to apple juice, grape juice, etc. Some people believe that eating yogurt helps, but if you try this, keep in mind that she should have some every day, and that it needs to be live culture yogurt. Cranberry juice has also been seen as a good thing for those prone to UTI's, but it must be taken every day as a preventive measure, and will not work to cure an existent infection. Concentrated cranberry tablets are available for adults, but I'm not sure if they are safe for children to take or not; might be worth checking with your doctor or pharmacist. That's about all I can remember! Hope this helps; God's blessings!Wendy-Lee
